Virginia's GOP gov. deleted MLK Day and Barack Obama from its history curriculum
I wanted to share this article today, one of numerous recent reports of cancelling culture by modifying history or banning books from libraries - just another report that begs the question, 'Have we gone backwards in time?'
Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) won his 2020 election by promising to ban anti-racist curriculum from schools. So he had his secretary of education consult conservative think tanks when rewriting the state’s history and social studies curriculum and exclude some 'critical' information.
For starters, it would appear that Youngkin doesn’t know the meaning of ‘anti-racist’ so let’s start with that:
an·ti·rac·ist
anti-racist (noun)
1. a person who opposes racism and promotes racial equality
Indeed, we know that history has historically been told from the point of view of the conqueror. But in the 21st century, we know better – or at least, should – and are working to correct the problem so we can have truly inclusive societies where ALL citizens feel like they belong. But not all our so-called “leaders” are on-board. A number don’t really want to be true anti-racists but would rather dupe their constituency into thinking they’re helping the cause by doing otherwise.
This kind of backward thinking is not going to make any place great again. In fact, it will do just the opposite.
That said, here are a couple of interesting comments from others on the posted article:
"Not since the days of the Hitler Youth have young people been subjected to more propaganda on more politically correct issues. At one time, educators boasted that their role was not to teach students what to think but how to think. Today, their role is far too often to teach students what to think on everything from immigration to global warming to the new sacred trinity of 'race, class and gender.' “

“Sounds about White. These are the same people who cry, rage, and fly into an insurrection, because they’re afraid Blacks are “replacing them.
But I’m confused.
Blacks are low man on the totem pole when it comes to employment. Their homes are devalued, they’re shown as absentee fathers….burglars…criminals…gang members… robbery crew members.
In which of these distinguished placeholders had Whites cornered the market and had stolen away by Blacks?
I submit to you that YoungKid is like every other bigot; deflated to learn that Blacks are far more than he was ever led to believe. That they’re no different than Whites. They come in shades of good, bad, ugly, wonderful, hateful, loving, capable, and afraid. They’re no different than Whites.
Admitting that even in their oppressed, marginalized, rejected and undeservedly despised state, Blacks have made amazing and monumental contributions to society. And like Whites, they thrive, overcome, and excel against all odds.
It goes against everything Whites like YoungKid has been taught, everything he’s ever believes, and everything they hear and see from other people like them - people whose circle of influence confirms the worst, and people for whom White-owned media is a normal part of their daily diet.”
It’s far more comfortable for Young Kid to try to erase rather than face the truth.
Poor kid. Poor YoungKid. Perhaps he’ll grow up one day."
